Congratulations ANTSHE's 2019 Scholarship Winners!

ANTSHE is pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 Association for Non-Traditional Students in Higher Education scholarships.

We received more than 175 applications for ANTSHE's 2019 scholarship awards, and the quality of the submissions was outstanding. The letters of recommendation and personal statements that we received were very inspiring.

Members of ANTSHE's Board of Directors, Professional Advisory Board, and staff carefully reviewed each application. After much deliberation, it is our pleasure to share the ANTSHE Scholarship Class of 2019 with you:

ANTSHE Board Scholarship

Molly Mcguire, Ball State University:

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the ANTSHE Board of Directors for awarding The ANTSHE Board of Directors Scholarship to me. I don’t believe that I will adequately be able to put into words how much receiving this scholarship means to me. I have high aspirations of completing my graduate degree this summer, double majoring in Adult and Community Education and Executive Development for Public Service from Ball State University. Afterwards, I plan to apply for to the doctoral program at BSU in Adult and Community Education. I have yet to decide what I want to be when I grow up, but whatever it is I want to strive to be one of the best. I will never forget my roots and where my love of learning first got encouraged, which was as a kindergarten student in Mrs. Hinshaw’s class at Monroe Central Elementary School.

Because of your scholarship my financial uncertainties regarding paying for the cost of my education have been alleviated. Now I am in a position to quit focusing on how to find the financial means to pay for next semester and focus my time and efforts on my studies. I am sincerely appreciative and hope that you know that I will continue to work towards earning good marks and future honors. I will work very hard to make ANTSHE proud that they awarded this honor to me.

I look forward to working towards positive changes in my community as well as the lifelong education of both children and adults."

Congratulations Tiffany!

The Kazimour Scholarship

Rodney Farmer Edward, College of Osteopathic Medicine

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you and the Board of Directors for selecting me as the recipient of this year’s Kazimour Scholarship. This scholarship will be used to help cover tuition and fees during my third year of medical school in the 2019-2020 academic year."

Congratulations Rodney!

The Kazimour Scholarship

Tiffany McCloskey, NorthWest Arkansas Community College

"I am most humbled and truly honored to receive your email on being one of the ANTSHE 2019 scholarship winners. Winning this scholarship means so much to me as it will greatly assist me this fall semester with the double degrees I am working towards. Being a non-traditional student amongst mostly younger college students has had many challenges; however, I am very determined to succeed and encourage others to follow their dreams and to believe in yourself. Again, thank you immensely for this amazing opportunity with ANTSHE! " - Tiffany McCloskey

Congratulations Tiffany!

The Barry Gilmore Scholarship

Glynis Boyd Hughes, Virginia Commonwealth University

This scholarship was created in memory of Barry Gilmore of Charlotte, NC. Barry was a beloved friend and colleague of ANTSHE who passed away September 12, 2018. He served not only as the Director of Community Relations (Business Liaison), and as a primary liaison with civic and business organizations within the community, he was also a dear friend. He was a true advocate for adult learners and had a way of making everyone smile.

Mr. Gilmore had recently retired from his work as a Student Life Coordinator with CPCC Levine Campus but his work did not stop there, he was always thinking of new ideas and ways to help others achieve their dreams. His positive energy was contagious and his presence at ANTSHE Conferences over the years always left us feeling motivated and inspired. He had a true passion for his work with students and was an inspiration to us all. We cherish his wit and laughter, and value the friendship that we had with Barry, and the support that he gave to us and to ANTSHE. Barry was a class act, a wonderful member of the ANTSHE Team and will be greatly missed.

In establishing this scholarship for 2019, Barry's family and friends wish to recognize the dedication to continued education and community service that Glynis Boyd Hughes demonstrates at Virginia Commonwealth University. Congratulations Glynis! We appreciate your dedication to helping others on campus.

Congratulations Glynis!
